ABOUT ABOUT

In order to transform our food systems and our communities, young people must be at the table.  How do we as adults make room for their creativity and innovation without tokenizing, ostracizing, or belittling them?  How do we build a foundation for their involvement that is empowering?

This workshop explores these questions.  The workshop will provide tips and strategies for working with young people that involve having power with them, rather than power over them.  Participants will have a chance to practice using these strategies in real life situations, i.e., running an empowering job-training program and engaging young people in problem-based learning.  Additionally, attendees will participate in and learn how to facilitate their choice of three youth engagement activities.

The workshop will be facilitated by AORTA staff Esteban Kelly and Kristin Schwab, and led by and adult and youth team.  Funding is provided in part by the Campbell's Healthy Communities Initiative.

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
