Growing and bustling cities and towns is a powerful, irrefutable trend that, at the same time, places heightened and complex demands on urban streets and Main Streets. While not always widely recognized or appreciated, a key ingredient of downtown vitality is the safe and efficient pickup and delivery of goods and, for receivers and shippers, convenient and reliable transportation services.
Balancing the need to get goods to the point of sale with the need to offer a high quality of life to Delaware Valley residents is widely desired. First conducted in 2015, DVRPC’s Downtown Delivery Symposium series explores this balancing act and how to successfully incorporate freight delivery considerations into major planning initiatives such as “complete streets.”
In conjunction with the City of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, and DVRPC’s Delaware Valley Goods Movement Task Force, Downtown Delivery Symposium IV will focus on fleet safety considerations and the safety practices advanced by the trucking industry. These topics will engender a lively discussion with Symposium participants about the collective challenge of safely conducting large vehicle operations in a dense multimodal environment.
