Floods, Roads, and Infrastructure: Payback to Planning and Protection

By Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (other events)

Friday, December 7 2018 9:00 AM 1:00 PM EDT

ABOUT ABOUT

This Climate Adaptation Forum focuses on the threats from flooding to the road system, other public infrastructure, and buildings. While sea level rise and storm surge are great threats to coastal communities, flooding from rivers and streams as well as nuisance flooding, threaten communities throughout our region as a changing climate brings significantly more intense rainfall events.

This Climate Adaptation Forum will highlight recent and ongoing research and activities by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the State of Maryland Department of Transportation related to understanding how our road systems and other public infrastructure and buildings are affected by flooding and what tools are available to prioritize investments to protect them.

In addition, presenters will talk about the benefits and payback associated with investments made in protecting transportation and other infrastructure, with specific case studies.

This will be an interactive workshop, with plenty of time for discussion and questions.

The panelists include:

  • Michael Scott, PhD, Department of Geography & Geosciences at Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD.
  • Daniel Szekeres, Senior Associate at Michael Baker International Michael Baker, Jr. Inc.
  • Elkins Green, Director of Environmental Resources , NJ DOT
