Over the past decade, the City of Philadelphia has steadily expanded its efforts to understand, plan for, and adapt to the impacts of climate change across multiple fronts.  From nationally significant programs like Green City, Clean Waters, to the publication of Growing Stronger: Toward a Climate Ready Philadelphia in 2015, and to the adoption of a new Strategic Plan by the city’s recently formed Flood Risk Management Task Force, Philadelphia has been on the forefront of the Delaware Valley’s efforts to confront the challenge of climate change head on and strengthen its resilience in the face of more frequent and more intense storms, floods, heat waves and extreme weather events.

Since the publication of Growing Stronger in 2015, city departments and offices have continued to work to address climate change and incorporate resilience into a variety of existing programs and new initiatives.  At the same time, the City is recognizing the opportunities and confronting the challenges posed by the nexus of climate change, environmental justice, economic development, equity, urban systems, and ecological function.  This Climate Adaptation Forum will feature speakers from multiple departments within the City of Philadelphia. Each speaker will discuss how they are working to operationalize resilience through outreach, plans, and projects, with an emphasis on how collaboration and education are needed to move past the status quo and effect meaningful change.  Learnings from this Forum can be applied to communities, municipalities and counties across the DVRPC region.

This will be an interactive workshop, with ample time for discussion and questions with the panelists.
